Engineering Rationale

Built for Forensic Schedule Practitioners

Why we developed a dedicated CPM delay analysis and schedule auditing engine inside Microsoft Excel.

The Engineering Challenge

On complex engineering and construction projects, schedules are built and maintained in Oracle Primavera P6. However, when project delay occurs and claims arise, the vast majority of analysis, dispute investigation, and reporting moves into Microsoft Excel.

Historically, this handoff has been painful and fraught with risk. General-purpose spreadsheets do not understand Critical Path Method (CPM) networks, calendar shift rules, or out-of-sequence logic. Forensic delay analysts, claims specialists, and planning engineers were forced to spend weeks manually writing error-prone lookup formulas, copy-pasting tables, and hand-tracing logic across dozens of monthly update files.

Our Philosophy: Power in the Native Environment

DelayLens was created to bridge this divide. Rather than forcing practitioners into an isolated proprietary web silo, DelayLens brings an exact XER reader and writer and a CPM engine that reproduces P6's dates directly into Microsoft Excel as a native add-in.

Exact XER Processing

DelayLens parses raw Windows-1252 and UTF-8 XER files directly. It reads every table, relationship, calendar pattern, and constraint with fidelity, without requiring P6 client installations or database connections.

AACE Standards Compliance

Our analysis modules adhere strictly to professional standards established by AACE International Recommended Practices 29R-03 (Forensic Schedule Analysis) and 52R-06 (Time Impact Analysis).

Cryptographic Evidence Integrity

Forensic analyses must withstand rigorous scrutiny in arbitration, dispute review boards, and litigation. DelayLens generates cryptographic SHA-256 hashes and logic fingerprints for all analyzed schedules.

Transparent, Formulaic Excel Output

Outputs are delivered as native, structured Excel worksheets with transparent formulas, native WBS groupings, and standard formatting that you can present directly to clients and tribunals.

Target Audience

DelayLens is designed specifically for technical project professionals:

  • Planning & Scheduling Engineers: Verifying monthly update quality, isolating delay trends, and checking critical path integrity before submission.
  • Forensic Delay Consultants: Reconstructing as-built schedules, running Time Impact Analyses, collapsing networks, and calculating party entitlement.
  • General Contractors: Defending extension of time (EOT) requests with verifiable schedule proof.
  • Project Owners & Employers: Auditing contractor claims, assessing concurrency, and protecting project budgets against unearned compensable claims.
